Lesson #1 is about introducing the students to the concept of careers, gender stereotypes and careers, and tools and uniforms needed for careers. I love this lesson because it wets their appetite for all types of careers that are available in the community. Also, this lesson lends itself to exploring gender equity and access.

Lesson #2 is about types of education and training needed for careers and being able to to gather helpful information about careers from adult family members and family friends. This is one of my all-time most favorite lessons. I am so, so thankful that I saved all of my graduation mortar boards and robes! They are coming in handy all these years later!

Where do I find the career and tool cards? I would love to do this with my students.
ReplyDeleteHi! If you scroll down to the bottom of the blog post, I included a link for the cards on Amazon. When I do this lesson, I have one pack of cards for every small group of 4 kids or so!!
DeleteHi! When I try to purchase the "Education and Training Cards" the "I want this" button just flips around and never gives the pop-up to enter my information. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteMaybe there was trouble with Gumroad? It took me a few tries today to get into the site/links. When I did get in, it worked fine.
ReplyDeleteTo Clarify: You can purchase the Career and Tool Card packs that I use in Lesson #1 at Amazon or at your local teacher store. Find the link to these above the comment section and below my name signature of this post. You could make your own cards if you have the ambition and time to do so. A plus for purchasing the card packs is that each card included information about each career on the back. So, when the kids are doing the matching activity, they have some information to help them complete the matching task. I think these Career and Tool cards are worth the purchase price.
